Create Life on Your Terms: How to Design a Blended Lifestyle That Breaks the Mold

What would it feel like to design life your way? No rules. No limitations. Just creating a purposeful, freedom-filled lifestyle outside the norm and that gives you everything you’ve ever put on your vision board?

Sound like you? Then this article is perfect for you!

Have you ever felt like you’re meant to live life a little differently? That maybe the 9-5, linear career path isn’t quite right for you — even if everyone around you seems to accept it as the “right” way?

You’re not alone. Many women are craving a lifestyle that gives them not only financial stability, but also time freedom, creative fulfillment, and a deeper sense of purpose.

I’ve been there. I spent 16 years in a career where I dreaded getting out of bed for each morning. I cried countless tears. I felt trapped, like I had no control over my schedule, how much money I earned, or what I focused on. I felt like I wasn’t able to make the impact on the world that I deeply desired. Even working in non-profits, I felt my services was so detached from direct influence. My work and creativity was stifled by corporate red tape.

I felt I couldn’t fully express who I was. I often wondered whose life I was living each day.

Until I hit rock bottom.

I started feeling like I was having a constant nervous breakdown. At one point, I left work early, faked a “meeting” I had to go to, and laid on the floor face down, a literal representation of what I felt I had to give the world. I was defeated.

I even elected to have foot surgery so I could be out of work for weeks so that I could hopefully figure out what I wanted to do with my life.

Now, of course, those are extreme examples, but if you can relate to feeling like you’re on a hamster wheel going nowhere, or like you don’t feel like you are living YOUR life, then today’s article is perfect for YOU!

Take this as your permission slip to explore and create a lifestyle that blends all your passions, talents, and dreams — even if it looks completely different from what’s considered “normal.”

Why Going Against the Norm Feels So Scary

We’re taught from a young age to follow a certain path: go to school, get a degree, land a stable job, climb the ladder, retire. But what if that path doesn’t inspire you? What if it feels confining instead of fulfilling? The honest truth is that most people don’t question their feelings. They don’t challenge themselves to see other options. They just accept the status quo and keep going.

Mostly because even the thought of choosing a different direction can feel terrifying. You might worry about being judged, misunderstood, or even failing. The fear is real — and so is the desire for something more.

Sometimes the hardest part isn’t knowing what you want, it’s giving yourself permission to want it.

Going against the grain might feel lonely at first, but it’s often the path that leads you home to yourself.

For today, practice accepting that just because it feels uncomfortable and foreign doesn’t mean it isn’t right for you.

It may feel like others around you aren’t doing what you desire to do…but there are plenty of people out there challenging the norms and daring to create lifestyles that work best for them – that will bring them the freedom, joy, abundance, and time they deeply desire.

What a Blended, Freedom-Based Life Could Look Like

A freedom-based lifestyle doesn’t have to mean quitting your job or moving to Bali (unless you want it to). It’s about creating a life that works for you.

Maybe it looks like running a small business from your home office, freelancing a few days a week, and spending mornings with your kids. Or working part-time while building a coaching practice and spending weekends writing that book you keep thinking about.

You get to mix and match the pieces: your skills, passions, income streams, and ideal schedule. There’s no one-size-fits-all.

(Doesn’t that sound amazing!)

Your life isn’t just work vs. home. It is complicated – passions, hobbies, family, friends, volunteering, businesses, careers, rest, spirituality. It’s all little things that you CHOOSE, that bring you joy, that spark your curiosity, that you curate together to create your life.

No wonder so many feel unfulfilled while working 9-5 careers. It, oftentimes, limits the time and energy you have for other things.

Life is meant to be a blend of little things that light you up, all pulled together in a way that works for you.

Freedom doesn’t mean dropping everything — it means defining success and fulfillment in your own way and giving yourself permission to create it.

How to Start Designing Your Freedom-Based Lifestyle

This is where the fun begins. You get to dream, plan, and design a lifestyle that supports the woman you’re becoming.

Here’s how to begin:

  1. Define What Freedom Means to You – This is where so many go wrong. We often BORROW other peoples’ definitions of success and freedom – what we should want. Only you know what FREEDOM feels like. What it looks like. What you want the freedom to do and have more time for. Today, as yourself:

What does freedom really look like?

  • Financial Freedom: What’s your ideal income and why? How much do you want in the bank? What investments would make you feel safe?
  • Time Freedom: How do you want to spend your days?
  • Creativity & Fulfillment: What activities light you up?

2. Visualize Your Ideal Day – Don’t underestimate the power of your mind to visualize what you desire. Only you know what this will look like for you. What will feel amazing. How it all comes together.

Today, Picture it in detail. Where are you? What are you wearing? What are you doing when you wake up? Who are you working with (if anyone)? How do you end your day?

3. Audit What’s Working (and What’s Not) – Here’s where you get honest. It’s ok to admit what doesn’t feel right. In order to create the blended life you desire, you need to know what isn’t in alignment and what needs shifting.

Ask yourself: What parts of your current life feel good? What feels draining or out of alignment? This will help you see what needs to shift and change and leave space for you to explore different opportunities.

4. Play With Possibilities – This is where you get to be creative. There is no one size fits all for your life. This is where you get to play with the possibilities and choose what is best for YOU.

    • Today, make a list of all the income streams, business ideas, creative passions, or part-time roles that excite you. Think of it like a lifestyle menu. You don’t have to choose just one. You get to mix and match and put things together in a way that works for you.

5. Choose Your First Step – It will take time for it all to piece together. It won’t happen over night. It all starts with one thing to focus on shifting/creating. Explore what will be easiest to start with.

Start simple. Pick one area — time, money, or fulfillment — and make a small change this week. Every aligned step creates momentum.
