How to create a vision board that aligns with your goals and dreams
Wondering how to create a vision board to manifest your life and business goals?
Well, look no further, because here is everything you need to know about creating your vision board AND making it work for you in achieving your business goals and dreams.
It’s that time of year where we all start thinking about what we want in the New Year, so this seems like the perfect time to learn how to create a vision board that aligns with your business and life goals. Don’t ya think?
I like to think of our goals and dreams like a GPS. You have to know the exact address you desire to get to in order to get the best roadmap that will take you there.
You have to know what you want. It all starts with your vision.
Not only do you need to know where you are going, you also need to keep your eyes on the prize, reminding yourself where you’re headed especially since it’s inevitable that it will take time to get there and there may be some roadblocks and detours along the way.
This is where a vision board comes into play.
A vision board is simply a visual representation of your goals, of what you desire to manifest in your life and business.
It’s basically a snapshot of the life you want to be living, that the future version of you is already living.
It reminds you each day what you are working for and towards.
A vision board is a powerful tool for manifesting your goals. It’s the first step and most important step if you want to see transformations in your life and business.
Here’s a good way to think about it: if you want to be a successful female entrepreneur, you have to know what that looks and feels like. You have to spend time envisioning what that means and looks like FOR YOU.
You have to define it and get really clear on who you will be as a successful entrepreneur, what your business looks like, what you will be doing in your life, how you will feel. You need to identify all the key elements of this life and business you are building.
Having this visual representation will help you stay motivated, remind you of where you are going when things don’t seem like they are going your way, and boost your confidence in what is possible for you and your future.
We’ve all heard about law of attraction. With manifesting and law of attraction, we need to become a match for what we desire, meaning that it’s not just about the tangible things we desire, it is also about our own personal growth and personal development, ultimately who we need to become in order to have what we desire.
A vision board helps you align your subconscious mind, your mindset, and your habits and actions to where you desire to be. It keeps your vision and desires at the forefront of your mind.

1. Why Create a Vision Board?
Visualization is extremely powerful. There have been so many studies around the power of the mind in achieving what you desire.
Everything in the world has been created in someone’s mind first. Everything started with an idea and a vision.
If you can’t visualize what you want, how can you possibly achieve it? If you can’t envision how you want your life to look, what it would entail, what would make you feel amazing and confident, and abundant, then how would you know what steps to take.
Visualizing your goals activates your mind’s ability to achieve them. Visualization amplifies success because you can use your visualization to filter out activities and decisions that will not align or bring you closer to what you desire to create in your life and stay focused on the ones that do.
We are bombarded everyday with countless opportunities, possibilities, to do list items, responsibilities, and expectations. It’s easy to get side tracked. It’s easy to let fears and doubts run the show and hold you back.
This is where a vision board is invaluable. As a physical representation, it is a constant reminder of what you are aiming for. Looking at your vision board is a great way to start your day to set your intentions, and remind you to make decisions based on where you are going, not where you are right now.
Here is the best thing about a vision board – it impacts your confidence and mindset.
When you can visualize your future and what you desire and create a visual representation of it, you are essentially, SEEING yourself doing and having that future dream. You are telling yourself that you are qualified, and that you are taking the steps to prepare yourself for that life and business vision. If you can SEE yourself having that life and business, it means that you, in some capacity, believe it is possible and meant for you.
It’s a way of validating your vision to yourself.
It is also helping you align your decisions to that vision therefore building confidence in your own decision-making abilities.
2. Setting Clear Goals Before You Start
You might be wondering, “how do I get started? And is there a right or wrong way to create a vision board?”
First, there isn’t a right or wrong way. This is your vision. You get to find the best way to create it and what will work for you.
Some people work better with a vision journal than a board. Some do better with written words than images.
No matter what way you decide to create it, it all starts with one thing – setting clear goals. Not just any goals, but specific goals.
Make them SMART goals – measurable goals so you have a roadmap to achieve them.
You need to get clear on your BIG VISION. Unapologetically. It needs to feel right and aligned for you.
Your vision should encompass all areas of your life. Even if you are creating a business vision board, you are your business. Your business is entwined in your lifestyle and your why for creating it.
Make sure you are showing what your successful business is and who you are as the business owner, what a successful business will allow you to do (more time for family, taking pilates classes, travel).
Try to visualize different categories – business, personal, leisure, relationships, health, financial.
Think about your why and what you want to experience – business growth, financial freedom, personal fulfillment. Be specific on what that would look like – financial freedom would be earning $xxx amount per month or having $xxx amount in the bank, business growth would look like maybe having a podcast, a certain number of email subscribers, a certain number of clients per month.
What is that big vision you have for your life and business? Ask yourself this and brain dump all that comes up.

3. Gathering Supplies for Your Vision Board
First, there are two different types of vision boards you can create – Physical and Digital.
Both have their pros and cons.
A physical vision board is perfect for tactical learners, those that need to see things physically, who may want to hang it on the wall where they can see it each day.
A digital board is perfect for those that want to bring it with them everywhere, who may way to open their phone or their computer and see their dream right in front of them. It’s also great for easy updates.
For a digital version, Canva is a great tool to create a digital board. You can search for already created templates and then use their stock photos, and graphics tools to create a board that feels truly aligned with you and your vision. You can then download the board into an image or PDF. You can save your image to your photos or make it your computer or phone wallpaper.
You can also create a Pinterest Board and pin images onto that board as a way to create a vision board. You can’t download it, but you can pull it up on your phone or computer when you need a friendly reminder.
For a physical board, you will need some supplies:
- Poster board, cork boards, or a dedicated space on the wall.
- Magazines, printed images, or inspirational quotes.
- Scissors, glue, washi tape, pens, markers, etc.
4. Creating Your Vision Board
This is where the fun begins. Once again, there is no right or wrong way of creating your vision board, only what feels right and aligned for you.
The first thing you want to do is select visual representations of your goals. This can be as simple or as creative as you’d like. This can include a collection of images, affirmation, symbols, logos etc.
Here are some examples:
- If you have a fitness goal, cut out images from magazines, or print pictures of people doing that activity. I currently have a picture of a woman doing pilates on my vision board since that is a fitness goal of mine.
- If you want to pay off credit card debt, download your credit card statement, upload it into Canva, then block the current balance out and add in $0 as the balance. Then print it out and hang it on your board, or digitally add the jpg to your digital vision board (make sure you block out the account number for safety!)
- Maybe you want to manifest a loving relationship. Find an image of two people together maybe holding hands or doing activities you’d like to do with your new loved one like hiking, dining, traveling.
- If you have a financial goal, print out or add a digital image of that number.
- If there are places you want to travel to, find images of those locations and print them out or add them digitally to your vision board.
- You can also print out affirmations or statements like “I have 20,000 monthly podcast downloads” or “I am in a loving romantic relationship”.
- You can include a listing of business ideas or programs you want to offer based on your business goals for the year.
- You want to choose images and words that resonate with you emotionally and align with your vision and how it will make you feel.
Next, you can organize your images into categories or different areas of your life like Business Success, Financial Abundance, or Personal Well-being.
Use the free Vision Journal Workbook to identify your heart and soul desires for each category and then write out all the representations you want to find to include on your board.
5. Make It Visible and Reflect Often
Now it’s time to create the habit of reflecting on this vision daily.
Remember, if you want to create this vision, you need to start making decisions based on where you want to be not where you are right now.
Place your vision board in a prominent place where you will look at it most often – hang it in your bedroom or office, make it your screensaver, paste your images in a journal and create a vision book instead of a board. You want it to be a constant inspiration to how you approach life.
One thing I encourage is to make a vision board date every quarter or 6 months to reflect on how close you’ve come to your vision, check in to see if you even want these goals anymore, and if anything has shifted and changed in your life or in your desires.
Sometimes as we learn and grow, what we thought we wanted changes, or you may have discovered that the things you thought you wanted were no longer aligned or that you wanted the for the wrong reasons.
Maybe you achieved some of the items and you have new goals or you realized it just wasn’t what you wanted for your life.
When you are done reflecting, have fun updating or creating a new vision board!
6. Using Your Vision Board to Boost Confidence and Stay Motivated
Here is how to use your vision board DAILY.
The thing we all have to remember is that our futures are built on the habits and intentions we lead with everyday. A daily visualization practice will help you leap into that new life and business so much faster.
Here is a new habit to adopt – set aside time each day to look at your vision board, tap into how it makes you feel, ask yourself what achieving those goals will feel like. Lean into that excitement, peace, and joy it brings.
Pair this habit with a daily journaling practice. Ask yourself things like:
- What would my future self believe today?
- What actions would my future self take today?
- How am I moving closer to these goals and dreams?
- What one habit or belief do I need to shift today?
- What fear do I need to let go of to take the next step?
Staying aware and connected to where you desire to be will change how you navigate your life and business now, how you react to your current challenges and fears, and the mindset and momentum you lead each day with.
Conclusion
Make sure you create a vision board that feels empowering and is truly reflective of YOUR goals and dreams. Your board should exude feelings of excitement, anticipation and hope.
And remember, this is a process that will evolve over time, just like their goals and confidence will grow as they take steps toward success. Your goals may shift and change, it may take time for all of your vision to manifest.
BUT, by being consistently connected to your vision board, to have it as a reminder of what you are working towards, you will find you will get there quicker, be less likely to be derailed, and have a built in momentum booster right at your fingertips!
It may even help you make decisions and sacrifices you were too afraid to make in the past, because now you have a reminder that your dream is worth it!
